I've been using the new SmartScoop self scooping litter box since mid September and highly recommend it!!!
The design of this product is more robust and reliable than anything in its price range (e.g. LitterMaid's product...I owned and saw it break down right after the warranty period expired, of course). We dreaded every having to go on a week's vacation having to come back to a mess on the floor. One time, we came back and there was waste built up in the litter box and the rake was jammed in the middle of it and the motor was still going, wearing out the gears. After our LitterMaid unit bit the dust, we threw it away and we switched back to the regular litter box (back to the messy clean up) until something better came along!!
We bought the SmartScoop when it first came out. We've since taken a 3-day long weekend vacation and were curious to see how it would hold up when we got back. We were pleasantly surprised! There was very little litter outside the box (probably from the cat jumping out of the litter box). There was waste in the receptacle and NO waste left over in the litter box area. The unit was not jammed or anything like that!! So far so good! : )
I like how the removable waste receptacle bin is simply lined with an inexpensive disposable plastic sleeve type bag instead of the more expensive and bulky plastic tubs and lids that you have to buy with the LitterMaid unit. SmartScoop's disposable bags are easier to dispose of and change out once a week...very refreshing! I didn't buy the deluxe model (with the sample sprays) but I did buy them separately and they do work to keep the waste from sticking to the box as well as keep the smell down to unnoticeable levels...I see the price that Amazon is selling the deluxe model at now and I definitely would have gone for that instead! The sprays go a long way and are not something I see myself having to buy very frequently.
I also really like the fact that the SmartScoop does not have a lot of "other expensive things" you need to buy to keep maintaining its operation. All you'll really need to continuously buy are the plastic bag liners (which comes in ample supply with the SmartScoop in the box to get you going).
Most importantly, the unit is very quiet and my cat took to it very quickly...I just placed it in the same spot where the regular litter box was. The unit automatically cycles about 15 minutes after the cat does it's "business" in the laundry room so he never notices the SmartScoop moving.
So far, the SmartScoop is everything that we hoped it would be. I could never see myself buying a litter box system for anything more than the lower $100's. Again, I highly recommend the SmartScoop litter box!! Finally, someone got it right! : )

I read many of the reviews, but decided to go and try this product. I have a littermaid and the smart scoop, and feel they are both equal...as soon as the littermaid dies I will replace with a smart scoop. I did have one problem with it when I first got it, I contacted the manufacture and replacement parts were sent out....questions asked were simple and the assistance from them was very helpful.
One person wrote that they spend just as much time cleaning it as they did the regular litterbox, I do check mine everyday, and do tweek the boxes(the above two)...in less time than I did with the regular boxes.
So the bottom line is I love the smart scoop and find it is not that noisy when running....it is truly a personnal choice and comfort. My 3 cats say we love it too!!!

Ok, ok I have read all the reviews about this product but I bought it anyway. I think I knew what I was getting into. I was not expecting perfection so I wasn't disappointed. Yes, it doesn't pick up everything Yes the tines need to be scraped from time to time. But, the litter stays relatively clean. It doesn't smell. The cats took to it like ducks to water. I don't have to worry about it as much as my old-fashioned-daily-scoop-smelly litter box. I wish I had bought this sooner. I have two cats and the holding bin does not fill up that quickly. I also have 3 dogs, 2 of which think cat poop is a delicacy. They now have nothing to choose from. I like it!!!

We just got this about a week ago, and already it's become the entertainment center of our entire household! After the cats do their thing, the green light starts blinking, and we know we're in the fifteen minute countdown. It becomes a mad dash to get out the lawn chairs for the big moment. The excitement continues to build! The mood's all set, the lights are dimmed, and the entire family including our two cats gather around to watch intently as the action unfolds.
First it begins to rake across the litter, and by this time we're all so excited we can barely sit still (especially the cats!)... and then it happens, as the rakes rise, sometimes some of the feces gets flung right over the wall and falls onto the carpet. We all clap and cheer! We've dubbed it the "Feces Flinger." Sometimes, if we're lucky, it rolls down the ramp for added fun - what a treat! We get out the measuring stick, mark it on the wall, and have begun petitioning the Olympic Committee. This could be the next event to unite the world!

When received this article had defective parts but were replaced free of charge and now the product works as advertised. Very satisfied as my kitty TRini is when using. So much better than a traditional litter box. Simply outstanding.
